On Hiatus Until June 4

You know what they say, "The Eiffel Tower wasn't built in a day." Well, Feather Girls say that, but everyone should. No offense to Rome.

We're taking Ruffled Feathers in a new direction and it's going to take some time to get everything in order. This blog has been the baby of the editors, but we're worn out on raising it and Feather at the same time, so we're turning this into a staff blog. We'll relaunch and be in full effect again on June 4.

In the meantime, there's still a lot of posts here (231, to be exact) and Feather Magazine still updates three days a week. If we see something insanely interesting or go to an event, we'll post about it, but it won't be updated daily until the relaunch.

If you'd like to be part of the new Ruffled Feathers by joining our team as a blogger, please apply!

5 Things I Learned From Beyoncé's Tumblr

A never-before-seen image of Beyoncé.

After releasing baby photos on Tumblr, Bey's obviously in love with the medium and is now sharing parts of her life with us via photos. Do you know how big that is? It took forever for her to even acknowledge the fact that she was married and now we get to see her personal photos? Motherhood has definitely made her more open to sharing her life with others.

As the staff's number one Beyoncé fan (And because, as editor-in-chief, I get to do what I want. Muhahaha.), I am again posting about a big event in King B's life. One day, I hope those of you who have also looked at her new Tumblr (along with her new website and her first tweet) will not hide in the shadows and just come out and stan hardcore with me.

You know you want to.

I'd just like to take a moment to thank Beysus for this amazing gift...

Now, let's talk about all the new Bey information we got:

1. We're no longer "Stans." We're "beys" now.
Basically, she's the Queen Bey of the Beyhive, working hard for us all the time and we get three choices based on our commitment to the queen: Honey Bey (calm, sweet), Bumble Bey (happy-go-lucky, unless crossed) and Digger Bey (going hard for the queen 24/7).

I'm really happy to finally have a name to call ourselves because Stan is from Eminem's song about a stalker who ends up killing his pregnant girlfriend, along with himself, by the end of the track because Eminem won't answer his letters. I love me some Beyoncé, but I don't sit around writing her letters and I'm not going to kill anybody (including myself) because she didn't write me back. That's crossing the line from fandom to stalker and I'm honestly too lazy to even consider stalking anyone. Could you imagine figuring out the logistics of celebrity stalking? Friggin' nightmare, I'm sure.

2. She was actually pregnant, so let's end the speculation.
The proof's here, here and here. The conspiracy theorists still won't buy it, I'm sure.

3. She and Gwyneth Paltrow are adorable BFFs.
There's a really cute photo of the pair dead tired and falling asleep sitting down. It's one of those "celebrities are just like us" moments.

4. There's a tree called blue ivy.
In a video, Bey is standing next to a tree that she thinks is blue ivy. Which she says fits, really. I thought the baby's name had something to do with her husband's love for the color, but maybe she named her after the tree? Or maybe both had a role to play in Blue's name. And maybe I should stop speculating before I seem like Stan.

5. She should do a video wearing this outfit in the desert.
I have a flair for the dramatic (blame nine years of theater experience), so this outfit needs to be in a video. Or a museum. It just needs to be seen. Why wasn't Patricia Field on top of this look for Sex and the City 2? Get it together, stylists.

New Season, New You

The cold weather brought us snow, the holidays and (hopefully) some down time. But it also rid us of natural moisture, bringing us dry skin, hair and nails. Spring is soon approaching, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t  repair your dry skin just in time for a season that’s all about new beginnings. Freshen up with these tips to get back to your natural, hydrated self.

Skin
1. Hot baths may have come in handy in the winter, but they lead to a loss of moisture in your skin. Take warm showers—cold showers would be too cruel—and cut the amount of time you spend under the water.
2. Wash with soaps that contain key moisturizing ingredients, like glycerin and petroleum. Check out body-cleansing brands like Dove and Olay, which can be found in your local drugstore.
3. Moisture works best on exfoliated skin, so whip out a DIY body scrub straight from your kitchen. Mix a spoonful of sugar—or three—and ¼ cup of milk to form a scrub that’ll leave your skin feeling oh-so-refreshing.

Hair
1. Washing your hair every day will strip it of its natural oils, so decrease the number of times you wash your hair throughout the week. If your hair gets oily, then sprinkle baby powder on the roots or try using dry shampoo, which will reduce the appearance of grease in your hair.
2. Wash your hair with shampoo that promises to repair your dry, damaged hair. Try TRESemmé Thermal Recovery Shampoo, which you can find in most discount department stores.
3. Love your hair, curls and all. Sometimes, it’s best to lay off the hair dyes and flat irons and embrace the natural beauty that you are.

Nails
1. Rub baby oil that contains Vitamin E on your hands and cuticles a couple of times a week, and this will help improve the overall appearance of your brittle nails.
2. Snack on biotin-rich foods, like berries and almonds, which will help strengthen your nails.
3. Treat yourself to a mani and pedi. The salon pros will give your hands and feet the much-needed rubdown they deserve, from moisturizing them with lotion to massaging them, thus stimulating blood flow to your nails and making them stronger. Fringe benefits? Pretty hands and feet, of course!
