Whether we admit it or not, the Disney Princesses have an effect on how we handle our romantic lives. Watching their films was probably the first exposure to romance most of us twenty-somethings had. We sort of never let go of those ideals of true love we picked up on. We'll always want the fairy tale.
Mary Pavlou, 18-year-old blogger of
Petite Tiaras and
Simple Disney Things, knows a lot about the Disney Princesses. She even created a few awesome magazine covers (like the one pictured on the left) featuring the famed fairy tale heroines.
"They're great role models who aren't necessarily flawless and I think that's what makes them worthy," Pavlou says.
One day, she'll either be a graphic artist for Disney or work at their theme parks, but for now she's giving a little love advice. The
Feather Magazine editors came up with some romance questions for the princesses and Pavlou humored us with answers based on how much she knows about the characters.
Tiana: You're a really independent, career-driven woman. How do you balance your lofty goals and your relationship with Naveen? —Brianti Downing, Editor-in-Chief/Life Director
Tiana always put work before fun her whole life by refusing to go out with friends and working 2 jobs every day. Naveen was the complete opposite because the things he wanted most were always given to him. However, when the two of them met, they realized that a little bit of fun and hard work was a good mix. Tiana and Naveen found that it was important to find a balance between the two. Tiana finally opened her restaurant and Naveen worked along side her mincing and playing his ukulele. She put aside her work every once in a while and just danced.
So, if you're someone who's constantly working, you have realize that a healthy balance of work and play is necessary in life. After all, Tiana said, "Daddy never got what he wanted...but he had what he NEEDED: love! He never gave that up, and neither will I!"
Cinderella: You had a gorgeous gown and danced the night away at a ball. How do you land a guy when you have 15 pounds of "love chub" and don't have your fairy godmother to do your makeup? —Jeni Bishop, Executive Editor/Health Director
Cinderella's gorgeous glittering dress definitely helped her stand out from the crowd at the ball, but she didn't just rely on her looks. Through all her hard work, Cinderella remained beautiful both inside and out. So, if you're running last minute to look good at the next big event, remember that a girl's best accessory is her confidence. You could be wearing a hideously ugly brown paper bag, but you could rock it with the right attitude. Have faith in yourself.
Ariel: You're a mermaid, but you fell for a human. How did you have the guts to go for someone as different from you as Prince Eric? —Rebecca Astorga, Beauty Director
Ariel longed to be apart of the human world long before she met Eric. In fact, she scoured sunken ships for lost treasures and dreamed of walking around on her own two feet. However, being under the strict rule of her father, Ariel found no way to see her dreams become a reality. No matter what obstacles came in her way, in this case her fins, Ariel was determined.
Yes, Ariel had definitely had guts. Life is all about sacrifices. If you truly want something so badly, something that completely fascinates you to no end, then there's no stopping the things you can do. As Walt would say, "All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them."
Belle: Why did you end up picking Beast (Prince Adam) over Gaston? And how do you discuss shaving with your man? —Kirsten Acuna, Entertainment Director
While many of the typical girls in town preferred Gaston's dashing looks and brute strength, Belle wanted much more. She didn't want just a body, she wanted someone who wasn't self centered and completely oblivious to her own feelings. This is why Belle chose the Beast. He might have been cold and different at first, but Belle quickly warmed up to him once he controlled his temper and proved his worth. When he showed Belle that he truly had a heart, she knew she was in love with him.
As far as shaving goes, Belle probably no longer worries about this since he's human again. But if a scruffy man is the issue, Belle would kindly suggest that he shave. Maybe she'd even help just to have fun.
Megara: What is your advice for girls with commitment issues? —Sara Brown, Blog Editor
Megara was hurt by another man before she met Herc; in fact she even sold her soul to help her ex. After he betrayed her, Megara found it was hard to trust another man. But Hercules won his way to Megara's heart by showing just how much he cared for her. And in return, Meg slowly started to fall for "Wonder Boy". Let your guy show that he really cares and give him the chance that he deserves.
Jasmine: How did you handle the fact that everyone was judging Aladdin, when you knew he was different from what everyone thought?
—Shelly White, Social Media Director
Jasmine wanted Aladdin because he proved that he was unlike any other man that had approached her. All the other suitors wanted Jasmine for her title, but Aladdin proved to Jasmine that he actually cared for her. Sometimes it is best to ignore snide comments. If you know deep in your heart his true intentions then do not let other people's opinions sway your own.
