Perry seems thrilled and passionate about her new film. At last week's premiere, the singer donned nail art featuring tiny popcorn and 3D glasses. Then she treated the crowd to a fun performance while wearing a bra made of movie reels. The girl likes a good theme party.
While I'm a fan of Perry's undeniably catchy music and funky onstage persona, I'm not the biggest fan of the 3D trend. I'm especially not that sold on the idea of 3D concert movies, especially since so much of this film seems to consist of home movies and backstage video. I've never been to a Katy Perry concert, but I doubt watching her stage performances onscreen in 3D will rival watching her perform live.
I think concert films and backstage documentaries can work well in movie theaters, especially if the artist is as vibrant and fun as Katy Perry. However, the combination of the two doesn't really appeal to me, and neither style begs to be released in 3D. Still, I must say that the format will be wasted if there are no 3D shots of Perry's many creative bras, especially the one that shoots whipped cream. I think that's what everyone is expecting, right?
Will you see Katy Perry's new movie? If so, are you willing to pay for the 3D ticket?
